Caitlin Armijo
Hello, I am Caitlin!
I started my early life in Gallup, New Mexico, and now live with my supportive fiancé, our beautiful daughter, and our three loving cats here in Albuquerque.
One of my first jobs was as a certified nursing assistant in an Alzheimer’s care home. Even though I did not know it yet, this is where my love for being a doula started to grow and blossom. This job introduced me to end-of-life care, and the comfort measures used to support patients physically, mentally, and emotionally. It was very similar to the support given by a birth doula because it emphasized the importance of providing education for the patients or their families to make informed decisions, listening to the needs and worries throughout their care, providing companionship, and meeting physical needs as they journeyed through this transition in their lives. I had always valued the connection and difference a person can make by providing that comfort for clients and their loved ones.
My love for the pregnancy and childbirth journey came from a very young age. I had always been very infatuated with birth, and the empowerment that seemed to accompany it. In TV shows and movies it always struck me as the most intense, but joyous times for not only the birther, but for the entire family. We all know TV is not like real life, but when I gave birth to my daughter and had that experience myself, the theme was consistent. I was an empowered mother, who had just gone through the most intense, and joyous time in my life, within the span of about thirty three hours. In those thirty three hours I was changed forever and continue to change and adapt as I grow into motherhood. I have never had an experience compared to that of going through pregnancy, and giving birth, and none of us ever have an idea of what that means until you are there yourself.
After birth, I had desperately wished I was more educated on the laboring process, and wished I had known what a doula was before I had given birth. Those wishes never made me see my birth or postpartum experience in a negative light, but instead, opened my eyes to what I wanted to provide for other birthing people, parents, and families. I then found DONA, and took my very first Certified Birth Doula Workshops. From then on, it was like all the birth and postpartum education in the world would never be enough to satisfy my craving to know more. The fountain of birth knowledge is never ending, but as a birth doula, my motivation is to try my hardest to be educated, and pass that education on to my clients with evidence-based birth facts, while also being a physical and emotional support.
My hope is to help birthers, and their birthing partners feel more empowered informed, connected, safe, and calm throughout the process so that you may look back and feel as though you have had a supportive birth experience. I hope to provide you with what you believe is the best birthing atmosphere for you, your partner, and your bundle of joy. I strive to respect the choices of the birther and partner, no matter what those may be. It is always going to be YOUR birth experience, unique in its own ways, and that is a very beautiful thing that I hope to accompany you in.
