New Mexico is my home, but Texas raised me. I grew up on a small goat farm in rural Texas and developed a love of birth at a very young age. At age 6 my favorite pastime was putting my ear up to the swollen bellies of nanny goats and guessing how many babies they’d welcome in the spring. When kidding season came around, I’d watch in wonder as the nannies labored and birthed their kids with ease amidst the trees.

I took this love of animals and birth with me into college, where I earned my B.S. in Animal Science. While attending Texas A&M University, I took a special interest in animal reproduction and dairy science. It’s there that I developed a knack for research. To this day, it’s a good bet that I have a peer reviewed paper open on my laptop at any given moment. I’m a researcher by nature and I’m always looking to learn new ways to hone my skills.

Upon moving to Albuquerque in 2016, I was ready to make a career change out of veterinary medicine. I saw how each of my sisters welcomed their children and was profoundly impacted by their journeys and by my mom’s 4 powerful birth stories. It was only after losing my mom in early 2017 that I recognized the call I was hearing — a call to help families. After some reflection, I put my focus on doula work.

I’m now a certified birth doula through DONA International and a certified birth educator. I believe that childbirth education is the cornerstone of informed consent and I love helping families build birthing confidence on that foundation. In 2020, I attended a Spinning Babies® Workshop where I learned several techniques to bring into my doula practice. The Spinning Babies Organization believes in the principle of “physiology before force” and that really resonates with me. Medical interventions have their place, but if we can work with the body first, isn’t that the best option for everyone?

In 2018 I welcomed my son, Sully, after a birth center hospital transfer.  It’s through healing from that experience that I really learned to be sensitive to the range of emotions felt when birth plans take unexpected turns. I’ve seen birth go completely according to plan and have seen it deviate from the plan at every step. This is why I help families prenatally to equip themselves to make the best decisions for their birth in the moment. Families are strong and capable, and I’m honored to walk alongside them in the process.

When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, tending to my many houseplants, sewing new clothes, and dancing to records from artists like Queen, Paul Simon, and The Beatles.

I am pleased to share that I am expecting my second baby and will be on maternity leave beginning December 2023.
